HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH WEDDING RINGS.
It is widely believed that the first examples of wedding rings were found in ancient Egypt. Relics dating back as far as 6,000 years ago, including papyrus scrolls, show us evidence of braided rings of hemp or reeds being exchanged among a wedded couple. Egypt viewed the circle as a symbol of eternity, and the ring served to signify the never-ending love between the couple. This was also the origin of the practice of wearing the wedding ring on the ring finger of the left hand, which the Egyptians believed to house a special vein that was connected directly to the heart, otherwise also known as Vena amoris (vein of love).
When it comes to shooting the wedding rings, get creative and incorporate other little details you can find around. I always photograph all three rings together and not just the engagement ring alone. I try to shoot the weddings rings in two-to-three different ways.
1. THE RING BOX
If the ring box is pretty or it has a sentimental value to my couple, I stylize the rings in the box.
2. CLOSE UP
Another shot that I will get is the wedding rings by themselves.
3. PERSONALIZED COLLAGE
Lastly, I usually do is a personalized collage. I will look around, grab any interesting details, flowers, a wedding invitation and style the rings with these personalized items. I always look for natural lighting and try to shoot the wedding rings from at least three different angles for a variety of different purposes.
Make sure you get a horizontal and vertical shot in case you will want to submit your photos to a wedding blog or create a wedding photo album. Don’t spend more than 5-10 minutes on the rings shots, because there are many other important details and moments that you have to capture.
