DO YOU NEED A SECOND SHOOTER FOR YOUR WEDDING?
Each wedding day is unique and whether a second shooter is needed varies from case to case. There are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to recommend a second photographer.
1. WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO YOU
– Are photos of both bride and groom getting ready important?
– How about the reception details?
– Do you want to capture your cocktail hour?
As a photographer, I always talk to you so I understand what’s most important to you. If you want getting ready shots (both bride and groom), a first look with lots of angles, details photos of every element, cocktail hour photos, and lots of action shots during the speeches then I would definitely recommend a second photographer.
2. LOGISTICS OF THE DAY
– Will you be getting ready nearby?
– How much time will there be for portraits between the ceremony and reception?
– Will everything be happening in one location?
– How long the ceremony will be?
While I can cover a lot of ground in one day, sometimes it’s just not possible for me to be everywhere. If we want to do sunset portraits while all the guests are at cocktail hour, it simply won’t be possible for me to capture both. Consider the logistics of your day when deciding whether or not to ask for a 2nd photographer. I’ll create a photo timeline to make sure I capture everything you want, but if you are running late, I’ll be not able to capture everything on the timeline if I shoot alone.
3. PRICING
Whether it’s a package or an additional charge, a second shooter will always add more cost. Second photographer charges around $60 per hour so if you are on budget maybe that’s not a solution for you.
All of this being said, is a second photographer always absolutely necessary? My answer is no. I photographed weddings without having a second shooter so many times! I’m 100% capable of telling the full story of a wedding day on my own.
